December 2000-April 2008: Washington Post
I was a copy editor on the Post financial desk. I was a backup slot for
many years; I was the interim desk chief in late 2003. For the last few
years, I slotted the Monday Washington Business section and Sunday A1
stories.
October 1989-November 2000: Chicago Sun-Times
I was the national-foreign editor of the Sun-Times. I was responsible
for all domestic and international stories in the paper. I managed the
Washington correspondent. Previously I was a general editor on the
Sun-Times copy desk.
April 1986-September 1989: Times Union, Albany, N.Y.
I was chief slot editor and reorganized the copy desk when Capital
Newspapers folded its afternoon Albany newspaper and merged its staff
with the morning Times Union's. I evaluated prospective hires and
consulted with the news editor on staff assignments. I was co-editor of
the Times Union's stylebook.
July 1981-March 1986: Schenectady Gazette, Schenectady, N.Y.
I was an assistant city editor. I supervised reporters in three bureaus
covering New York state government and local news in Albany County. I
also edited the business section.

I was the editor of a monthly tabloid newspaper published by this
division of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal
Employees, whose 20,000 members worked for private, nonprofit social
service agencies. I was responsible for scheduling, budgeting, writing,
photography and production. I also wrote speeches for the union
president.
May 1977-May 1978: WVOS AM-FM, Liberty-Monticello, N.Y.
I was hired to create, with one other reporter, a competitive radio
news department. I was responsible for four daily news broadcasts in
addition to reporting and writing. I also did weekly commentaries and
occasional play-by-play sports broadcasts.
December 1974-September 1976 Times Herald Record, Middletown, N.Y.
I was a general assignment reporter based in Monticello with three
other reporters. For the last several months, I was chief of the bureau
in Port Jervis, N.Y. I also took photographs.
August 1972-December 1974: Times Union, Albany, N.Y.
This was my first newspaper job. I covered the usual town boards, city councils, school boards and police news.
January 1967-August 1972: WSNY Radio, Schenectady, N.Y.
I
started as a trainee and in 1969 became a full-time reporter. My duties
included writing and delivering several newscasts a day.
