If someone tells you, "I'm a journalist," tell him he's being a bad journalist for being so vague. On Labor Day 2010, his statement could refer to almost anything: Developing iPad apps. Running social media campaigns. Remotely producing multimedia packages. Writing an e-mail newsletter for a nonprofit. (Journalism Lives) *** No, it couldn't. *** |

But that is the kind of stuff your industry's brain trust is telling papers to put their focus on, and that's what resources that used to go into reporting are being used for. Expect this misunderstanding of the term to spread. |
