Is there an equivalent to the Newspaper Intelligence section of the News Mait Writers' Cooperative site that signed off the Web several years ago? Could we set up something similar on this site? It would be a great service to journalists to be warned away from the bad working situations that seem to be rampant in this industry.

Among other concerns, I fear that editing such a site would be incredibly time-consuming.
Visitors to the now-defunct News Mait Writers' Cooperative (www.newsmait .com) will find the site's logo -- a baying wolf -- and a short, sad message (left) from its founder, Florida Today reporter Maurice Tamman. When he introduced a message board to the site in 1997, offering newspaper reporters the opportunity to grouse publicly -- and anonymously -- about their editors and newspapers, vitriolic responses poured in from around the country. News Mait even inspired a similar site, News Blues (www.newsblues.com), for television reporters. But now the complaint window is closed. Besieged by content he felt was "a perversion of what I intended it to be." (Columbia Journalism Review)
[ November 24, 2004: Message edited by: blanp ]

Anyone know what's up with Poison Kitchen (www.poisonkitchen.com), which tried to pick up where News Mait left off? It was up for awhile, though apparently few people knew about it. For the last several months, the site has had only this message:
Under Construction
The Poison Kitchen isn't gone, just changing.
