The United States has now been missed by 18 Atlantic hurricanes since Irene hit the southeast coast in October 1999. Alberto, Debby, Florence, Gordon, Isaac, Joyce, Keith, and Michael all failed to strike the U.S. land last season.
And that, said Weather Service hurricane meteorologist Scott Kiser, is "unusual, highly unusual."
Is it by chance?
Absolutely, Kiser said, "a crapshoot." (Washington Post 11/30/01)<p>***It might have been worth putting in if Kiser had responded, "Oh, no. The Mighty Thor decides these things."***
