(Washington Post)<p>***No. "LAX" is an airport code. People who don't fly--there are a LOT of them--don't know that it means "Los Angeles International Airport." Which reminds me: I've been missing ORD a lot lately.

LAX, I think, like JFK, but probably few if any others (SFO? that's San Francisc-O) is a big enough airport in a big enough city that it's well known. It's not first reference and it's not Omaha, after all.
