The search for the next dean of the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University appears to have narrowed to three candidates: journalists James Fallows and Alex Jones and former publisher Jay Harris. (New York Daily News)
***Fallows? Him again? I said in 1999: "Wouldn't it be nice if someone gave James Fallows (late of U.S. News & World report) a nice low-visibility job that keeps him too busy to freelance for every magazine in America?" Columbia is not what I had in mind. I dismiss the value of j-school education, but there's always a danger that a certain number of students might listen to Fallows and think that he is something other than a blowhard. Maybe if the Times hired Fallows to succeed its loose-cannon Sunday magazine editor, he would wither away unnoticed.
[ June 12, 2002: Message edited by: blanp ]
