...we will need 12 episode scripts finished and polished. We are looking for 2-3 writers to pitch ideas for stand alone episodes...A strong background in hard science, math, fractal theory, or 4th dimensional theory is a big plus. Despite this, we want to produce character driven SF stories in the vein of "Lost," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Smallville." (Freelance Writing)

Not quite a nightmare, but it still tickled me. The fractal theory's a gimme, but how are we supposed to understand something as complex as Buffy?

I got a C+ in "new math" in fifth grade. Does that qualify me?

How handy it is that the Freelance Writing job listings have a "Low Paying/Non-Paying" category.

"Despite this"? I confess, I fail to see how one could write a fractal-themed, character-driven plot set in less than twelve dimensions...

My favourite post on that site are the two that transparently solicit term papers: "Researchers/Writers" and "Academic freelance writing positions available". The latter appears to be eager for "thesis work" - does this mean one gets to be a ringer for the oral exams?

D.

Yeah, I liked that too. As if anyone with a Master's would not be able to figure it out.

So a strong background in something that doesn't exist is a big plus?

The sad, sad life of the professional sci-fi fan.

Not sure Einstein would have gone along with that assessment.
