All national reporters seem to favor describing Columbia's last flight as "the doomed flight."
Wouldn't fatal be more accurate? Doomed implies a sense of fate.

And while we're at it, should events such as the Columbia flight be referred to as a "tragedy"?
A tragedy is when an individual brings an end to him/herself because of a tragic flaw, usually vainity. The Columbia explosion was not a tragedy.
But, if you look in Webster's, the fifth definition is "a very sad or tragic event or sequence of events; a disaster."
What say you?

You're right about "tragedy" but that battle has been waged and lost countless times.
