In a dramatic, hourlong session, several justices appeared sympathetic to arguments that Death Row inmate Kevin Wiggins had been deprived of effective assistance of counsel, as guaranteed by the Constitution’s Sixth Amendment. (Chicago Tribune)<p>***It is folly to guess what Supreme Court justices might be thinking during oral arguments. Get rid of such speculation.***

I assume (speculation on my own part) what follows the graph blanp objects to is a quote from a justice or two from oral arguments.
Quotes might bolster what the Trib writer says.
Maybe this isn't much more than a bad verb choice. Skeptical questions from Supreme Court justices are often quite clear. <p>Can't rush to judgment here. How would it best reported if, say, Antonin Scalia asked (with Clarence Thomas nodding along) "Are you fucking kidding me?"<p>[ March 26, 2003: Message edited by: jmcg ]</p>
