Harry Truman wanted a one-handed economist. This from Kyodo, Japan's one-handed wire service:
Thaksin to teach at Japanese universityThailand's ousted former prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, will become a guest professor at Tokyo's Takushoku University and hold a special class on July 5, sources close to him said Thursday.
Thaksin's acquaintances in Japan have made arrangements for the post out of hope his wide-ranging knowledge will be passed on to Japan's younger generation, they said. In the special class, he is expected to give a lecture on Asian business-economic models, based on his experience as a businessman before he went into politics, they said.
Thaksin plans to visit Japan in early June to hold discussions with officials of the university and hold a press conference in Tokyo with university President Toshio Watanabe to announce his taking the post of guest professor, according to the sources.
He assumed the post of Thai prime minister in February 2001 but was ousted in a coup last September while he was in the United States. He has since been outside Thailand in a de facto asylum in London, Beijing and elsewhere.
