From an AP profile of New Jersey's Peter Rodino, who was chairman of the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate hearings:<p>Rodino is also proud of his work on civil rights, having helped draft the watershed 1964 Civil Rights Act ... [snip] “I was a kid born in Newark’s Little Italy — I knew what discrimination was all about,†said Rodino, still clearly bitter over years of racism he endured because of his heritage. <p>** Unless Newark's civic and economic power structure in the 1920s was made up of African Americans, the Italian-American Rodino wasn't a victim of racism. Bigots are all evil, but not necessarily interchangeable.
